Viruses, Malware, Spyware - Whatever you want to call them, the end result is still the same - disruption. Yes, granted there will be varying degrees of disruption, however, ultimately it is the end user who will most suffer the consequences.
There are a number of very simple things that you, an end user can do to help prevent an attack or file corruption as a result of a virus, malware or spyware infection. This is true whether you are a company director, an employee or a home user simply surfing the web:-
1) Install antivirus software and KEEP it up to date - One of the major reasons for virus infections spreading so easily is due to antivirus software not been regularly updated. This can be standalone software or full network antivirus.
2) Be diligent when receiving emails with attachments from unknown senders, or emails from known senders which you were not expecting. Scan every attachment BEFORE opening them with your antivirus software.
3) Avoid downloading unnecessary applications from the internet, especially from unknown web sites.
4) Backup your data (documents, photographs, emails etc.) to a safe place other than your local hard drive i.e. use an external drive or USB memory stick.
If the worst does happen, CompuCheck has a number of services which would help, these include virus removal, spyware removal & full system checkups, some of which can be offered via remote assistance. Please see either the Home Services page or the Business Services page for more information.
